Confirmation Bias The Conservative Hour

but the air tastes like you're being in a campfire, but other than that, it's a beautiful thing. And I'm not out sitting in a car, so. What are your thoughts on the subject of confirmation bias, brother, because I know you have an opinion. Well, I mean, there's so many different aspects. You have, there's confirmation bias where literally, long as it tells you what you want to hear, you will believe that freaking the Jews have space lasers that are setting fire to random motion. Have seen that you know to be true easy to take the next step and apply this to something else that's unreliable. When often and not, you know, you shouldn't be attributing to nefarious actions which can't just be, you know, could be explained by stupidity or incompetence or ignorant. So it's multifaceted. Well said, I guess for me, what always frustrates me is essentially people are saying to you that I have to trust your judgment over my own. And I don't understand why anyone would ever think anyone is gonna trust their judgment over my own. I love, look, salty. Think he's awesome. I still don't trust my judgment over hers. As she should trust hers over mine, but it's just interesting. I want to. Yes. But it's interesting though, because can you imagine me saying to you, salty, you should trust my judgment over yours. You'd be like, are you out of your mind? No, but yet that is something that people do seem to ask other people to do. And that's something that I don't know why anyone would ever think that that's something people would ever do. And I think it all kind of goes hand in hand. Plus just based off of all the kind of, I think the world that we live into is a bit, because things happen really fast. And I think because things happen so fast, I think sometimes we become so reactionary to things. And I don't think being reactionary is ever a good thing because you're just reacting to things that are happening and rather than actually being, because let's be honest, especially in politics these days, everything is in our faces, right? And especially now that the midterm is coming up and once it hits September, then it's gonna be like full board to the midterms. And basically what we're gonna get is we're gonna get both sides trying to give you their narrative as to what's working if you're a Republican and if you're a Democrat, what's not working. But in reality, depending on who you are, it could be things are working great for you because of where you live, it could be not. But what frustrates me and what will always frustrate me about our politics, the way it's become is, it's basically become, I'm sitting right here and I'm saying, well, Leanne has this, she's thinking this way, right? And in my mind, that's exactly how it's been. I'm coming to you quick, me, it's right. But then when I listen to her talk, right, I should at least give her the opportunity to explain herself. The problem is though, when you already have a confirmation bias, it doesn't matter what she's saying, you've already decided that's the box that she's gonna go in, so we're gonna put her in that box. Go ahead, be sure to go to salty. I agree, well, hardly what you're saying. And yeah, people should listen to their own gut before they listen to other people and then people are gonna gaslight you. They should be able to do more than talking points. They should be able to articulate. But I'll also say there are some people that probably would do better to listen others than themselves because last time I checked, when you open a car manual, it actually gives you a warning not to drink battery fluid. So, and shampoo bottles have instructions. So I'm just saying not everybody's the sharpest knife in the drawer. Go ahead, Solche, that drink battery asks if they really got me. I mean, say, me too. To tag along with what you were saying, another thing that I find frustrating is we will be in the midst of a discussion and someone says, well, it's this, this, this, this, this and this. You re-bet. However, I don't quite see it that way because of this, this, this, this. And they say, well, then that makes you blank. Then they start to labeling. You have to hear me, and if you don't agree with me, then you are then labeled. Now, there are in some regards, I understand people in certain ethnic groups, including your own Nathan. You know, I'm gonna trust you. If you tell me certain things that are specific to your race because of your experience. However, if I'm having questions or there's other information out there, it doesn't mean I'm not going to challenge you and either a, I'm not there yet, or b, I'm never gonna get there, but it doesn't make me a hater and, or the label that some people put on someone else, it doesn't make it true. So, I'll just end it there. We had, I'll never forget, you had me, you said this to me a lot. We will discuss something and it can get pretty heated. And you'll just say, you know, give me some time because I'm not there yet. And that's the thing. I think sometimes, I know for me, my mind doesn't change just because someone shows me something. You know, it's going to, I'm gonna have to do my own research. I don't just offer someone's word, but I'll give an example. You said something, this is when we first started doing spaces. You said that you feel like politicians should be held liable for promising one thing and not delivering. And I poo poo to hell out of it. And even though it may not be, there's nothing that we can do about it, but after over time, I was like, well, you know, I called it fraud. Yes, because that's kind of what it, that's kind of what it is. Now, we'll never get charges against them, but that's kind of the point. The point is though, you should be, they should be held accountable for what they say and then what they don't do. But I didn't see that when we first had that conversation. It took many, many, many months. And you didn't try to browbeat me in this admission. We did argue about it very loudly. My car speakers remember. But at the same time though, you gave me the space to actually kind of figure it out without labeling me anything. And I think that's kind of the problem that a lot of us have is, disagreement is going to happen. This is life we all disagree, but it's when disagreement comes and then all of a sudden because I disagree with you and I'm taking different than you, then I am whatever, an idiot, a fool, whatever. And instead of just saying, well, you know what, maybe it is just that you need more information before you can make that decision. Go ahead, Salt. No, I was just going to say, I'm sort of glad you brought that up. Well, I am glad you brought it up, because if I remember correctly, your argument was, it's never going to happen. Regardless of it's never going to happen, it doesn't make it right. And it's not going to happen if we don't discuss the merits of trying to hold these politicians accountable. We have to start a conversation and if memory serves me right, and you're like, this is never going to happen. It doesn't matter. That's where we were at. And I believe that's why many people put the idea, because I don't even know where to about that. But if we took that approach to everything and everybody because of where they're at today and don't have the grace to try to meet them where they're at, then, you know, and then, you know, I do say all the time, I'm not there yet. But I'd also like to back it up. I'm still my own person. I saw my own mind and I mean, never get there. I mean, I mean, I may still hold on to something and not agree with what you're saying. But once again, it doesn't make someone a hater. I really wish you wouldn't have said that never going to happen, Parpe, yes, I did say that though. But it was because I'm sorry, I'm bearishing. But it was because at the time I felt so strongly about that. And the truth is, our relationship kind of evolved as far as just realizing also to shutting you down or shutting anybody down doesn't necessarily help the situation. And the reason why I said is because will it probably ever happen? No, but that doesn't mean that it's OK. And that was really, I really don't like eating cro very often. But it was really just the fact, though, that just understanding that I'm just talking to you about it, it completely changed my thought process over time. And that's the thing when I've never been convinced by someone just saying something to me or listen to someone read something or whatever, especially if it's an opinion that I have my own personal opinion like we all do. But it does take time. Like, it really does. I mean, think of all the opinions that we've all formed in our lifetime. It takes time to form those opinions. Whether you're a conservative, a liberal, progressive, whatever, you didn't just get there overnight. It took time. Like the reason why we've all, I think a lot of us have stated why those of us are conservatives are conservatives because that's what we believe in. For me, it was just talking things over with my dad, but then also seeing how the country is run. But this, but oh, go ahead, beach. I was just going to say it as a connoisseur of crow. It's fine. Barbecue sauce. It basically tastes like chicken. Well, that's OK too. And the funny thing is it's actually OK to be wrong. In fact, most of us are wrong probably more than we're right. But it's also understanding though, if you are wrong, it is OK to admit it. And sometimes you do have to swallow your pride. It is not a good feeling to do that. But what does frustrate me about it, though, is I do feel like this is something that we could actually as not just as in the space. I'm saying as a country, this is something that we could do so much better is that all of us have our own belief system. And we hold on to it dearly. But Salty, you say this often about meeting people where they are. I feel like you always have to do that because especially when you're talking about someone, when you're talking about ignorance. The thing about ignorance is there are ignorant people that are not helping. You can't help them. They'll be ignorant forever. But then there's people that are ignorant because they just don't know anything or they don't know any better. And I do feel like there are moments where you're talking to someone and you realize that they're coming from a position of ignorance and they don't really understand things. A lot of things, like again, Salty as an example, I can't tell her how to be her because I don't have her life experiences any more than she can tell me how to be me. I can make suggestions about things in my life that might have helped me out or something like that. But I can't walk a mile actually in her shoes like that is impossible. And I do believe that it would be easier, I think in life, if we all tried to give people a little bit more grace and understand that where she's coming from is always going to be different from me just because of her perspective. Well, I think we all have biases, but sometimes we don't know that we have them or we deny that we have them, but we do have them. And naturally as human beings, we do subconsciously tend to be tribal and you will gravitate towards the quote-unquote, you know, your club or your people. So for example, if you were to go like you were a stranger, you walk into a town, you ended up going into a room. And the first thing that you're going to do when you walk into the room, you're going to look like, okay, is there anybody who looks like me in this room? And if there are tables over there, you're going to find yourself sitting on that table. Because those people look like you because it gives you comfort. Those are the things that are actually going to happen. Now in terms of things that are ideological or worldview, then that's going to be a different state. Right? So I'll use myself as an example. I am a Christian. So I do things through a biblical worldview. So if I was going to walk into a room and all the blood people over there are helping to be Muslims and all these Spanish people, why people are helping to be Christians? I feel comfortable sitting with a Christian people at the table because that's just how I'm saying things. Okay? So those are the things that are going to happen. So we should acknowledge that people do those things. It doesn't make it wrong, they say, cause that's an actual thing that people are going to do. Now in terms of things that are actually happening, then the measuring of those things have to be truthful things. It's my people are saying things that are actually wrong. I am obligated not to agree with them simply because they're wrong. Cause truth has no color, truth is truth. So that will be if I'm challenged based upon truth, I will be convicted. That was wrong, this is right. So I tend to go towards to the side of truth. You know, do I make a mistake? Yes, have I been wrong? Yes, I have been wrong. But if something is proven to be true, then it doesn't matter where it's coming from. That will be where my agency is going to lie. So, you know,
