AI 内容摘要
Casey from Space ID shares her crypto mining origins and explains Space ID’s mission to build a universal Web3 name service aggregator supporting .bnb, .eth, and more.
- Casey entered crypto by helping a friend relocate mining farms from China to the U.S. and Canada after the mining ban.
- She joined Space ID three months ago; the project publicly launched in September and has been live for about two months.
- Space ID is building a universal name service network that connects people, information, assets, and applications, and is decentralized and open source.
- They launched .bnb domains because the BNB Chain ecosystem had many active users and gamified projects but lacked a native name service.
- Space ID differentiates itself by building an aggregator and infrastructure layer, including other name services instead of competing with them.
- They plan to launch a blockchain universal name next year.
- Key challenges include cross-chain interoperability and pricing short names higher to prevent bots and back actors from grabbing valuable names.
- Web3 domains are NFTs held in wallets, and the broader goal is solving Web2 problems around data ownership and sovereignty.
Space ID's strategy is to aggregate and integrate existing name services, so developers and projects should consider integrating its SDK to gain automatic compatibility with .bnb and .eth names.

And we got Casey in the building.
Casey, good morning.
Morning, everyone.
How are you?
Good, good.
How are you?
It's pretty early for you.
It is, but I've been up for a little bit.
What time's it there?
It's what, 10 30?
Yeah, it's about 10 30 here.
I am jealous, but it's all right.
It's all right.
We'll just get it started soon.
And how was the week and all good?
Yeah, all good.
Just hanging out with friends, went into the city for a bit.
What about you?
It was good.
I honestly, I just slept a lot last week.
Bazzle killed me.
And then just the week in general killed me.
So I need to be with some stuff
recovering from Bazzle.
Bazzle?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Alisa, Christmas is around the corner.
New years is around the corner.
So hopefully I can get some rest, you know, those weeks as well.
Yeah, at least we have something like looking forward to at this.
Oh, yeah.
One, we got a couple of things to look forward to.
So excited for that.
But I'll just mute it.
And then we can just start like two minutes out of good.
OK.
Hi.
All right.
Let's get it started.
Are you ready?
Yes.
Yeah, we can start.
Let's go.
So no, thanks everybody for joining us early in this space.
We really appreciate you all.
And today we got one of our favorite guests in the building.
We got Casey from Space ID.
Casey, what's going on?
Again, are you?
Thank you.
Thanks, JJ, for hosting so early.
Hi, everyone.
I'm Casey from Space ID team, and I currently
work on the business development side.
So I'll just jump into self-insul, I guess.
Go for it.
Yeah.
So prior to joining Space ID, I worked at a centralized exchange.
My story entering this industry really
began from crypto mining, of helping
a friend's mining gig about two years ago.
It was pretty random, but I'm very glad to be here.
And thanks again, everyone for being here.
What a...
Now you're in.
Now you got me interested.
So it's not like, you know, you've been interesting.
But like, so what I guess, how did it happen?
How did the crypto mining thing happen?
So with the crypto mining band that happened in China,
my friend had to shut down his mining farm.
So he was trying to move the hash rates overseas.
So that's how I got involved, because he asked me if I wanted
to help.
Yeah, that's how I started essentially.
God, you God.
So he moved them from China to like another country
over there in that side of the world.
Yeah, mostly in the states and in Canada actually.
God.
Yeah, yeah.
So a lot of miners were migrating.
I would say May or June last year.
So that's how I started.
Yeah, I remember when the band happened.
Yeah, I got you.
I got you.
Yeah, remember when that happened.
That's crazy.
OK.
So they just helped them move them basically over here.
Mostly finding power, sourcing, hosting capacity,
visiting different farms.
It's a very different world from what we're doing in crypto.
God, you got to.
Hopefully I get into that eventually.
But how did it so?
And then I'm sure you landed at Space ID.
How long have you been at Space ID now for?
So I've been with Space ID for only three months actually.
The team started the project around a project this year.
OK.
We started having the idea of building around identity.
And then we did our public launch in September.
So yeah, we've been live for over a little bit like two months.
So far.
Yeah.
Awesome.
So, though, then let's get into Space ID and what you guys are.
So like, how?
What is Space ID?
And yeah, just give us kind of a brief venture on the project
itself.
Yeah, yeah, sure.
So Space ID, we're building a universal name service network
that connects people, information, assets, and application.
We are a diagnostic, but also decentralized and open source.
We saw the importance of web identities.
And we truly believe that some users, maybe not all,
but they want to keep one identity across different DApps
or even from Web2 to Web3.
So that's why we started the project for Space ID.
And right now, we included in S into our SDK.
And we want to build a name service aggregator as well.
So any developers or DApps that integrate Space ID SDK,
they will be automatically compatible with dot BNB names
and also dot ETH names.
We started dot BNB name because there
was a need in the Binance chain ecosystem.
There's a lot of active users and also a lot of gamified projects.
But there's no name services yet.
So that's why we started the first top level domain on BNB chain.
So before you guys, before September,
there was no sorry, the ID or domain project
that kind of just had a dot BNB.
I think there were some similar projects
because essentially for name services,
anyone can start an extension on any blockchain.
But I think the most important for domain name service
is having integrations and having a huge community.
So that's how we come in.
There's definitely other name services
that's being doing similar thing.
But there was just not enough adoption in the space.
For sure.
So I guess that's, I'll probably just ask you about that.
Then what kind of new thing made you guys unique
versus those other projects out there
that might have been working on similar stuff.
But like you guys just came in and just,
what made you guys, I guess, pop up
over the other ones?
We didn't just want to be a simple name service network
on one single blockchain from the beginning.
So we're working towards a whole name service
infrastructure and aggregator.
So we're really building one level above just
a name service network.
So I think that's how we differentiate ourselves.
And we're being inclusive to other name services
that's doing really well already.
So we're looking into including them
instead of building new ones to compete with each other.
Yeah, so I think that's how we differentiate.
And then we also want to do a blockchain
universal name next year.
So that's how we differentiate.
For sure.
No, that's super, super dope.
I guess.
And kind of like just piggybacking off of that.
Like water, you know, some of the challenges
or things that kind of like bugged you guys
or you personally with other domain services out there
that you guys are just trying to fix.
You know, obviously the chain agnostic side, right?
Like anything else, I guess.
I think the challenges are pretty universal
for all the domain name services or even to the wider DID
or decentralized identity sector in the space.
So for Web3 domains users hold them.
You know, there are NFTs that you hold in wallets.
People can trade transfer on in their wallets.
And it really goes back to the idea
that we want to solve the problems from Web2
where users don't have data ownership and data sovereignty.
So that's the starting point for the whole decentralized
identity sector.
For us, I think we are, you know, just one component
to the DID because there's just more than your name in the space
where more like a medium that's composed your identity
overall.
I think for us we're facing a few problems
like cross-chain interoperability
because we all know that cross-chain is not perfectly solved
right now with what we have in terms of technology.
So that's something our developers are working on to solve.
And we're still trying to design the best infrastructure
or design to solve that later on for the universal name.
Yep.
The second problem that we have, I would say,
is the cost to registration, the domain name,
because for three letters or four letters,
then the names are not cheap.
But we designed that pricing because we
wanted to avoid some back actors and bots
to take all the good names.
And the names won't be used by people who really need them.
So that's one thing we haven't solved.
